The basic canvas for a well done makeup is smooth, healthy, glowing skin. Hence it's important to keep your skin in a good condition. Beautiful skin begins with good nutrition. New, living cells continually replace the dead cells on the surface of the skin, and their growth is dependent on vitamins, minerals and hydration. Below are some of the vitamins required and where they can be found.
1. Vitamin A:
Function: Helps prevent aging. An antioxidant essential for growth & renewal of new skin cells. Topically applied, may boost collagen production & promote skin cell turnover.
Found in: carrots, spinach, watercress, broccoli, sweet potatoes, melons, egg yolks, dairy
2. Vitamin B:
Function: Increases fatty acids in the skin, promoting exfoliation and firmness.
Found in: yeast, eggs, liver, vegetables.
3.Vitamin C:
Function: Promotes clarity. Vitamin C is the building block of collagen, the protein that gives skin its structure, tone and elasticity.
Found in: peppers, strawberries, oranges, grapefruit, leafy greens, citrus fruits, broccoli, tomatoes
4. Vitamin D:
Function: Essential for the development of skin cells.
Found in: egg yolks, salmon, fortified milk, and other dairy products.
5. Vitamin E:
Function: Protect against the environment. An antioxidant that helps build and maintain healthy skin tissue.
Found in: wheat germ, leafy grees, nuts and whole grains
6. Zinc:
Function: Promotes healing & reduces inflammation in body.
Found in: whole-grain foods, nuts, dairy, fish and beans
7. Biotin:
Function: Prevents dermatitis and hair loss.
Found in: peanut butter, whole grains, eggs and liver
8. Fat:
Function: Necessary for supple skin and soft, shiny hair.
Found in: olive oil, avocado, omega-3 fats in fatty fish, seeds
Eat a balanced diet to feel good, improve overall health and look good. Last but not least, don't forget our bodies need lots of water too. Without sufficient hydration, the skin cells become dry and flaky. Keep your body hydrated by drinking at least eight glasses of water a day and we will be on our way to better skin!
